Unvaccinated adults cost America more than $7 BILLION a year, study reveals

New research reported in the Daily Mail finds that “vaccine-preventable diseases among adults cost the U.S. economy $8.95 billion in 2015”. The Daily Mail reports that Eighty per cent of this spending was used to treat unvaccinated individuals. They highlight that flu, pneumococcal disease and shingles pose the biggest cost to health.

  • Pneumococcal disease: The US paid nearly $1.9 billion in costs to treat unvaccinated adults with these diseases.
  • Herpes zoster:  Costs the US $782 million a year.
