A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates that vaccination against influenza is associated with a ‘significantly reduced risk’ of developing pneumonia.
Dr Grijalva of the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine stated ‘The estimated vaccine effectiveness was 57%. This means that about 57% of hospitalisations due to influenza-associated pneumonia could be prevented through vaccination’.
